Tschudi Mozambique Announces a New Office in Pemba

The Mozambique adventure began with the opening of our office in Maputo in 2019. The office in Maputo has joggled many challenges during the first couple of years, nevertheless, the team has succeeded in building a stable business against all odds!

New times are now arising in Mozambique, and this forms the basis for growing Tschudi Mozambique by adding a new office in Pemba. Fabio Spetrini have accepted the challenge as General Manager for the Pemba office.

The railway sector has been undergoing a revolution in Egypt for several years. The country wants to reshape this segment of public transport to improve its quality and reduce the number of accidents recorded.

The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) will receive a batch of 7 new trains from the Spanish manufacturer Talgo, the first of which will be delivered in mid-February, according to a press release from the Ministry of Transport issued on January 27.

The order launched in April 2019 thanks to financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), actually concerns 6 locomotives for a total cost of 158 million Euros. According to the Ministry of Transport, Talgo will donate an additional train to Egypt.

Egyptian rail transport has long been plagued by repeated train accidents and derailments that have claimed many victims. To change the situation, the current government has drawn up an emergency plan unveiled in 2014 and which includes major rail projects (metro, monorail line, SGR line).

These acquisitions are therefore part of the policy of renewal and densification of the national train fleet, intended for the new railway lines that the country is developing. In a statement dated March 27, 2021, Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir indicated that a budget of 225 billion Egyptian pounds (nearly $14.3 billion) has been allocated to the development of the entire country’s rail network.

Logistics, Chains, Shackles and inflationary costs of Transport! What a ride logistics and transport take for the moment. Did it look that the pandemic was at it’s return and light at the tunnel, a war was initiated by Russia against neighboring democratic country, Ukraine. This has driven at first the prices of fuel and oil which are at high levels we havenot seen for a long time.

Logistically, at present, it means that no cargo can reach Ukraine by sea, Russian Black Sea ports are no go areas for most of the ships operated and due to the sanctions, any cargo to or from Russia is a possible issue with the authorities in western countries. The chain of logistics or perhaps better, commodities, is under severe pressure since every shackle is presently under pressure. Fuel prices are volatile, Ukraine & Russia, both exporters of various foodstuff commodities, are hardly exporting which will give upward pressure in demand towards the other producing countries. This will create new logistic challenges, pressure on vessels and ports etc. Few will realize that for instance Romania has export which has to pass the Danube running through Ukraine which is now war risk area. Stock of products from e.g. steelfactories in Ukraine, before they were blown to pieces, is placed in Ukrainian ports. These plants, if still working, need raw materials, like ore and coal to function. The export cargoes now will be moved to Romanian ports. Railway is not an easy option since the different gauges in Ukraine and Romania, so extra handling thus costs. The solution would be to use barges via Izmail and Reni ports which still are functioning. However ports are getting congested with containers which are inbound to Ukraine and now stocked in Romanian ports also. So the disruption in the logistical chain is caused by the individual shackles. There is not an easy solution for it and in order to make sure that your goods are moved, contact specialists who can advise and assist you in your logistical questions. Casper Chartering is Corporate Partner with The Mission to Seafarers

Providing backing and support both financially and by raising awareness so that they can continue the excellent work they do in offering support and assistance to the thousands of #Seafarers who dedicate themselves to keep #worldtrade flowing.

Here is a brief summary of what The Mission to Seafarers are doing in terms of current support for Seafarers:

  • In as many of the 200 ports around the world as possible we are offering emotional, practical and if asked spiritual support to seafarers. Many of the frontline team are trained in mental health, first aid and counselling so they can assist with all these kinds of problems.

-Communications – Where possible, if seafarers dont have access to exteral communications, the teams can provide support with equipment such as MiFi Units with extra data to have onboard (And in many instances allowing the vessels to sail with the equipment as opposed to just having onboard whilst in port) or providing Sim cards where necessary.

-The Samaritans Fund has been increased which is available to use as grants to seafarers who need financial support / assistance.

During the course of the next 3 months, Casper Chartering will post regular updates in regards to efforts and success which has been made by the partnership and we aim to deliver as much support as possible to those working as seafarers on the frontline at sea.
